CSS vs. Browser Support
CSS Standards: CSS 2.1, CSS 3 vs. Browser Support - Response 1, Response 2Reading about CSS 2.1, 3, and the controversy of Browser Support was, I have to admit, a bit hard to understand the reasoning for the differences.
I read the responses and I really enjoyed reading about the changes and updates that Internet Explorer 8 is going to be implementing. I know that such a chanage to the overly-used Internet Explorer will really make website creation all that much easier. Knowing, as a web developer, that I wouldn't have to worry what my page was going to look or render like on so man different browsers would make life all that much easier and more stream line. So as far as browser support is concerned, I am all for a consistancy among browsers to render pages the same.
I also read the response by a man who is a CSS Developer. Going off memory here, because the page isn't working anymore, but it was interesting to me the arguments he posed towards the CSS Board about how the committee wasn't looking out for the best of the CSS developement. If I remember right, most of the committee members were browser affiliates, who were more interested in making their browsers work with current standards. The man in response 1 really voiced his disapproval towards the biasm in the committee members. I completely agree with his accusations, however. I really like the CSS standards that are being created and all the different new measures that are trying to be impletmented, but I don't think change and progression works if there are people trying to hold back progress so others can catch up. So in contrast to my other thoughts on browser support, I think progression in the web world of CSS is more important that getting our browsers up to our current standards.
I believe the best attitude for the web developers of the world, is that of getting our CSS to continue to progress and change for the better, but also have our browsers work towards having the future standards implemented in their internal workings. If we can't have today's standards in today's browsers, I'd rather have tomorrows standards in tomorrows browsers. Lets improve and get both up to the same level and not worry about the past.
